Terms of use
The rules for using Solicitors Guide: it offers general information about UK solicitors, not legal advice, and forms no solicitor-client relationship.
What these terms cover
By using Solicitors Guide (solicitorsguide.uk) you agree to these terms. The site is a free source of information on UK solicitors, arranged by area of law.
Not legal advice
The lists are meant to help you shortlist solicitors, not to advise you. They cannot tell you if you have a claim, what it could be worth or which firm to choose. The law is different in Scotland, in Northern Ireland and in England and Wales, it changes, and some time limits are short. Only a solicitor who knows your facts can advise you.
No solicitor-client relationship
Getting in touch with a firm through the site does not make it your solicitor. A solicitor-client relationship starts only when a firm agrees to act for you, usually in a client care letter. Nothing you send through the site is confidential, so keep the details of your case out of it.
Not a law firm, not a claims service
The site takes no referral fee, passes no cases on, makes no appointments for anyone and never charges a reader. It does not promise the quality, fees, availability or regulatory status of any firm. If you hire a firm, the agreement is between the two of you.
How the lists are made
Firms are chosen and ordered from public information (the work each says it does, how its clients speak of it, plus where it is and when it opens) together with the method set out in “How we select”. Top places a firm among the first on a list and Pro gives a firm a longer page. Each plan is labelled. Neither is a check on the firm or an endorsement.
Check before you instruct
The lists are kept up to date, but addresses, hours, fees and the work a firm accepts can change between updates. Look up the firm and the individual solicitor on their regulator’s register, and ask for the client care letter and a written explanation of the fee before you agree to anything.
Firms that manage a page
A firm that claims a page confirms it has authority to manage it, and that its content is accurate and not misleading. It is responsible for what it writes, which must respect its regulator’s publicity rules and the CAP Code and must not promise results. Anything that falls short may be corrected or removed by us. Paid plans have their own terms in the area for firms.
What you may not do
The site must not be used unlawfully, mined with automated software, probed for non-public areas, or used to impersonate someone or to supply false details.
Ownership
The name, design, wording, selection method and list order belong to the owner of Solicitors Guide or are used under licence. Linking and short quotations with credit are fine. Copying more needs written permission.
Liability and governing law
We exclude no liability that the law forbids us to exclude. Beyond that, Solicitors Guide does not answer for the legal services of listed firms, their publications or linked websites. English law (the law of England and Wales) applies to these terms, and consumers living in Scotland or Northern Ireland keep the right to use their local courts. If we change the terms, the version shown here when you use the site is the one that applies.
